Two suspects, one of them facing murder charges, have escaped from Mathari Referral Hospital in unclear circumstances.

The two, according to a report made at the Muthaiga Police Station, escaped at unknown time on Tuesday afternoon.

Prison Warder Corporal Geoffrey Wasilwa of Kamiti Maximum Prison currently attached to Mathare Hospital said the two, who were undergoing treatment at the facility, cut the window grills before jumping over the perimeter wall.

Mr Kathina Robert Titus, 22, had a case of murder pending before the Nairobi High Court while Mr Boniface Murimi Murithi, 25, had been charged with house breaking and stealing. His case was pending before Embu Law courts, according to the reports.

Police have launched a manhunt for the two but Wednesday morning, none of the escapees had been captured.

On December 5, about 80 patients escaped from the same facility following the doctors’ strike.

Most of them, including former boxer Conjestina Achieng, were captured and returned to the hospital.
