Nairobi County is set to be the first city in Africa to have its own Resilience Academy which is will be open in December, 2016.

This was announced on Thursday by the President of the Rockefeller Foundation Judith Rodin when she held talks with Nairobi County Governor Dr Evans Kidero at City Hall.

Nairobi City will benefit from these Academies, whose aim is to help growing cities overcome the challenges of urbanization.

“Once again I am delighted with this announcement. In May this year Nairobi joined the network of 100 cities around the world that would receive Sh16.4 billion ($164 million) to build resilience against urbanisation challenges,” said Dr Kidero.

PARTNERSHIP

On her part, Ms Rodin said the applied workshops which will be held in December in Nairobi will be facilitated through the Academy and will take into consideration the analysis of real problems and criticism.

“This session will ensure Kenyans work locally to institutionalize resilience and enhance resilience thinking,” said Ms Rodin.

She also lauded the great partnership between Nairobi County and the Rockefeller Foundation.

Other Academy sessions have been held in the United States (Connecticut and Illinois), Bangladesh and Germany.
