A Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) belonging to Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa is among those taken to the Railways Club in Nairobi for inspection by the Kenya Revenue Authority over unpaid duty.

His personal assistant Kizito Temba said that it was not the CS’s fault that duty for the vehicle was not paid.

Mr Temba said the car seller was at fault.

By the press time, the seller had not arrived at the scene.

The taxman had blacklisted 124 vehicles on Saturday and asked their owners to take them to the Club Monday for inspection.

However, only four vehicles were inspected.

Interestingly, Mr Wamalwa’s Range Rover and a Mercedes C180 are registered as lorries, while a Toyota Fielder is registered as a BMW according to KRA.

One vehicle on the list was bought by PTA Bank under plate number KX22A96 at Toyota Kenya back in 2013, deregistered and sent to the bank’s regional head office in Zimbabwe.

KRA has also been liaising with Interpol, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Regional Intelligence Liaison Office and other investigation agencies to smash a tax evasion ring involving cartels from the United Kingdom and Uganda.

In March, KRA officials impounded luxury cars imported from Britain disguised as household goods.
